Hike for Congo is May 30th, 2015! We will hike together through the forest and fundraise for our Congo Connect partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Hikers are encouraged to fundraise for the cause or make a donation.
Hike for Congo is a fundraiser for Youth for a New Society, a coalition of peace groups in D.R. Congo, and the #Telema peace movement.
D. R. Congo has been in conflict for over 15 years -over 6 million have died- and the conflict is ongoing.
Telema means "Stand Up" in Lingala, one of Congo's four main languages. It is a global Congolese movement unfolding both in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in the Diaspora. Launched in the wake of the January 19, 2015 uprising in the Congo, #Telema aims to support, develop and sustain an organized popular movement in the Congo for peace, justice and human dignity.
Hiking at the Pinckney Rec Center: The hike is a 3.6 miles. Meet up at 12 noon in front of the Eddy Discovery Center: 17030 Bush Rd, Chelsea MI 48118
